Man with 'Explicit Intent' to Kill Police Attacks Woman in Ohio Station
Officers at an Ohio police station stopped a man earlier this week who attacked a woman in the lobby and had the "explicit intent of killing an officer."
The incident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. Monday when a man—identified as Daniel Carrillo—entered the Elyria Police Department and sat down on a bench, The Chronicle-Telegram reports. While on the bench, Carrillo took off his belt and folded it in half as a woman spoke to the clerk.
Security footage from the lobby then captured Carrillo approaching the woman with his belt over his head. The woman backed away, but Carrillo continued to follow.
The woman grabbed Carrillo's belt, and a struggle ensued. Carrillo lunged at the woman, and an officer said it appeared that he struck the woman in the neck.
Eventually, the woman pushed Carrillo away, and two police officers rushed into the lobby. They pinned Carrillo against a wall, and he was taken into custody.
The woman suffered cuts to her hands and nose. She said she didn't know Carrillo.
In an interrogation after the incident, Carrillo told investigators that he smoked marijuana and had come to the station to hurt someone.
“(Carrillo) said he arrived at the Elyria Police Department with the explicit intent of killing an officer,” stated the report. “When Carrillo arrived at the police department and did not find an officer in the lobby, he observed (the victim) and decided that he would attack her. Carrillo went on to explain that his intent was to kill (the victim).”
“Officers asked Carrillo if he were released today, would he try to kill again, with Carrillo stating that he would if his belt was returned to him,” the report added.
Carrillo was arrested and charged with felonious assault and felony attempted strangulation, as well as other charges.
